Kayla has always been drawn to creative work that matters and the people doing it.
Kayla grew up in New Orleans, surrounded by art, culture, weird swamp creatures, and food that ruins every other city’s food for you. She loved being around people who were deeply proud of where they came from and unashamed of what made them unique. That love of creative, eccentric, deeply human places has never left her, even after trading the Louisiana humidity for the mountains of Johnson City, Tennessee, where she now lives with her three kids and a vegetable garden that started as a pandemic project and has since taken on a life of its own.
She came to client partnerships the long way. A photography degree led to shooting weddings and families, which led to some of her favorite work: capturing stories for nonprofits doing something that truly mattered. That pulled her further into marketing — blogs, websites, annual reports, donor engagement, all of it, until she realized she was more energized by managing the creative work than doing it herself. She didn’t need to be the one creating. She needed to be the one making sure it happened, and happened well.
That’s exactly what she does at Fieldwrk. Her days are spent connecting people, kicking off projects with creative teams, presenting brand work to clients, and finding the balance between what the teams need to do their best work and what the clients need to feel their trust was well placed.
On Saturdays, you’ll find her at the farmers market with her three kids before finding the nearest body of water to splash around in. She still shoots film, tends to her garden, and is a self-proclaimed lifelong horse girl who has never considered growing out of it.
She’ll also tell you, firmly and without apology, that boneless chicken wings are not wings. They are chicken nuggets. Do not insult a wing like that.
