Not your typical web developer. Shay builds websites for the people who build the world.
Most web developers come from computer science. Shay came from graphic design, video production, and a company called Big Ass Fans. Yes, that’s the real name. That unconventional path, plus an internship at a branding agency working on clients like Toyota and Valvoline, and four years at BuildWitt learning the infrastructure and construction world from the inside, gave her a perspective on web development that’s hard to replicate. She understands how things should look, how they should function, and who they’re actually built for.
At FieldWrk, Shay custom-codes every site from the ground up. No shortcuts, no templates, no AI-generated code. Her philosophy is simple: web developers are valuable because they solve problems creatively and with full context. That’s not something you can outsource. A website can be pretty, but it also needs to actually work.
Day to day, that means scoping work accurately, building sites that are as easy to maintain as they are effective, and keeping clients’ customers’ needs at the center of every decision. She’s direct and honest with teammates, protective of the team’s time, and clear about what good work actually requires. Clients appreciate knowing exactly where she stands.
When she’s not building websites, Shay runs an art studio in Morehead, KY, called WhimziWorks, where people can stop in anytime to make something. She also has a deep love for violent action movies, which surprises most people who meet her. Her husband would add that she’s also very good at being right, and she wouldn’t argue with that.
